History of Lampworking
      1. Cut glass is sharp. Be careful when handling glass.
      2. Protect your eyes—Use safety glasses with appropriate filters.
      3. Always use adequate ventilation. Protect yourself, your family and pets from hazardous fumes.
      4. If working with a flame—be aware of where you are working in the flame at all times.
      5. If using gases, leave tanks outside, and check for leaks frequently.
      6. Have fire extinguishers handy. Plan your escape route.
      7. NEVER touch hot glass or tools that have been in the flame or kiln.
      8. Keep flying glass away from pets and family members.
      9. Always wear protective clothing - long sleeves and long pants, and full protective footwear.
      10. Tie back long hair.
      11. When melting glass rods, remember to place hot rod ends on rod holder or metal surface to avoid burning work surfaces.
      12. Wear a respirator when working with metals, foils and enamels.
      13. If using chemicals in your work, wear protective gloves and eye protection. (etching solution, patinas, electroforming solutions, etc.)
      14. Always wear adequate gloves or other protective devices when reaching into a hot kiln or furnace.
      15. Avoid dropping molten glass on yourself by keeping the glass over your work surface when it is hot. Avoid forceful movements of the mandrel while the glass is hot.
      16. Introduce cold rods into the flame slowly to avoid shattering, or pre-heat rods on top of your kiln or on a hot plate or other pre-heating device.
      17. Never leave a kiln on unattended.
      18. Drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated, however, always use covered containers for your beverages.
